NOTICE
Effective immediately Section 8 has temporarily suspended the issuance of Housing Choice Vouchers, due to the Congressional Sequestration/Funding.
For new applicants searching for a unit: Effective immediately all new applicant voucher issuance has been suspended until the 2013 budget has been approved.
We are not accepting applications for the following program:
- Housing Choice Voucher Program (Section 8)
What is a Section 8 Voucher?
The Section 8 Program provides rental assistance to eligible individuals
and families who rent units in the private rental housing market.
How Does it Work?
HUD set Fair Market rent limits based on the size of the unit and
community market conditions. The Jefferson County Housing Authority
issues a Voucher to a qualified client based on their family size and
needs.
The participant completes all the eligibility documentation and finds
a unit, which meets HUD standards.
The tenant pays 30% of income as rent. The JCHA pays the difference
between tenants portion and the contract rent. JCHA will send their
portion of the rent directly to the landlord.
The waiting list for Section 8 Voucher Program is closed until further
notice.
Project Based Programs
The Jefferson County Housing Authority (JCHA) will not be accepting applications for its waiting lists for Project-Based Housing.
What is Project Based Programs?
These programs provide Section 8 rental assistance at specific a property.
How Does it Work?
The resident pays 30% of income as rent to the landlord of the specific
property. The JCHA pays the difference between tenants portion and the
contract rent directly to the landlord. The assistance remains with
the property and is NOT transferable to other properties.
We are currently accepting applications for the following:
Allison Village Project Based Assistance
Mainstream Housing for Persons with Disabilities
At this time we are no accepting applications for Main Stream Housing.
What is Project Mainstream Housing for Persons with Disabilities?
This program allows for non-elderly persons or families with disabilities
to receive a Section 8 voucher and live in an apartment or house suitable
to their needs.
How Does it Work?
The disabled person receives a voucher and finds an apartment or house
that qualifies under Section 8 programs. The resident pays 30% of their
income as rent to the landlord. The JCHA pays the difference between
tenants portion and the contract rent in the form of a check directly
to the landlord.
A non-elderly disabled person and/or family may apply at JCHA's office
