Section 8

NOTICE

Effective immediately Section 8 has temporarily suspended the issuance of Housing Choice Vouchers, due to the Congressional Sequestration/Funding.

   For new applicants searching for a unit: Effective immediately all new applicant voucher issuance has been suspended until the 2013 budget has been approved.

 

We are not accepting applications for the following program:

  • Housing Choice Voucher Program (Section 8)

What is a Section 8 Voucher?

The Section 8 Program provides rental assistance to eligible individuals and families who rent units in the private rental housing market.

How Does it Work?

HUD set Fair Market rent limits based on the size of the unit and community market conditions. The Jefferson County Housing Authority issues a Voucher to a qualified client based on their family size and needs.

The participant completes all the eligibility documentation and finds a unit, which meets HUD standards.

The tenant pays 30% of income as rent. The JCHA pays the difference between tenants portion and the contract rent. JCHA will send their portion of the rent directly to the landlord.

The waiting list for Section 8 Voucher Program is closed until further notice.

Project Based Programs

The Jefferson County Housing Authority (JCHA) will not be accepting applications for its waiting lists for Project-Based Housing.

What is Project Based Programs?

These programs provide Section 8 rental assistance at specific a property.

How Does it Work?

The resident pays 30% of income as rent to the landlord of the specific property. The JCHA pays the difference between tenants portion and the contract rent directly to the landlord. The assistance remains with the property and is NOT transferable to other properties.

Mainstream Housing for Persons with Disabilities

At this time we are no accepting applications for Main Stream Housing.

What is Project Mainstream Housing for Persons with Disabilities?

This program allows for non-elderly persons or families with disabilities to receive a Section 8 voucher and live in an apartment or house suitable to their needs.

How Does it Work?

The disabled person receives a voucher and finds an apartment or house that qualifies under Section 8 programs. The resident pays 30% of their income as rent to the landlord. The JCHA pays the difference between tenants portion and the contract rent in the form of a check directly to the landlord.

A non-elderly disabled person and/or family may apply at JCHA's office at any time.

2009 Utility Residential Rates from Public Service are: .91/CCF and .07/KWH.

Trash Removal = $19 per month based on averages from residential trash pick up
